Hundreds of families and individuals in Squirrel Hill live with the threat of hunger. The Squirrel Hill Food Pantry offers them help, support and hope. Volunteers, financial supporters and food donors are critical to our fight to end hunger, without them, we could not exist.
Eligibility… All families and individuals who live in the 15217 area, and those outside 15217 who keep kosher, and meet income requirements are eligible. We are a kosher food pantry, which enables us to fully meet the needs of those in our community who keep kosher. However, it is not necessary to keep kosher to receive food assistance. The Squirrel Hill Food Pantry serves all who qualify for food without regard to race, sex, color, national origin, ancestry, religious creed, disability or age.
We offer more than just food… To help participants reach a goal of self-sufficiency, an outreach social worker assists with issues concerning unemployment, financial difficulties, depression and more.
KOSHER FOOD ITEMS NEEDED With increased clients and a decrease in the amount of donated kosher food, the pantry is in great need of the community's help. The pantry needs donations of kosher canned tuna, cereal and peanut butter. Please consider sponsoring a food drive or adding some of these items to your weekly shopping list. For more information, or questions regarding how to help, contact the pantry at 412-421-2708.
