Volunteer
Volunteers truly are the heart and soul of our Food Pantry. We could not operate without them. More than 500 volunteers support the Food Pantry in various ways. Whether you have one day a week to volunteer or one day a year, we can find the right opportunity that will match your interests. By generously giving of your time, talent and energy, you can make a significant impact.
Be passionate, get involved! Join our caring team of volunteers!
- If you're an individual, you can join a fun group. If you're looking to sign up a large group, we can accommodate groups of up to 20 people at a time. Once or twice a month we schedule volunteers to sort and pack donations for clients that receive home deliveries. There is no lengthy orientation or time commitment. You'll join an efficient, well-organized project right on the day you come in. Please be sure to call ahead to schedule a large volunteer group in advance as those spaces fill up quickly for our Sunday volunteer hours!
- We need help unloading monthly deliveries from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank truck.
- Volunteers with their own transportation are needed to pick-up food donations from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank donationsand various locations throughout the community, drop recyclables at recycling centers and deliver groceries to homebound clients.
- One of the ways we raise money for the Food Pantry is through our food basket centerpiece program. Volunteers help put together basket centerpieces and deliver and pick up centerpieces from local synagogues or other venues in which our food basket centerpieces have been used in lieu of flowers or other decoration.
- Volunteers are needed to work in the food pantry with clients, assisting clients who are shopping, assisting with bag packing/check-out and assisting clients with applications for various government benefits programs as applicable (training provided).
- Volunteers are needed to help weigh and sort donations, stock shelves and package/re-package items as needed for client selection.
- The Pantry relies on the generosity of our community, in both time and money, to operate. Volunteers to assist with donor acknowledgement and other administrative tasks would be welcome.
Note: Some volunteer activities require that you sign a confidentiality agreement in order to ensure the privacy of our clients is protected.
